The Calling

Made for Scream Secrets Jam 2024. The whole game takes around 5min to play, 10 tops.

The whole idea for the game came up when I first looked at The Island of the Dead by Arnold Böcklin one week prior to the jam. It's a beautiful painting and it seems to lure you in, which is ironic considering its title. Then I thought I could make a game to raise awareness about suicide, since I had recently lost a friend. But I still wanted to keep the atmosphere a little lighter, so the game ended up not being scary at all. I wish I could've done a better job, but it's the best I could do in a week by myself.

Made with RPG Paper Maker because I wanted to see how far I could push the engine. Available for Windows, Linux, and also playable on the browser (although the loading times are admittedly slower, especially on Firefox). All the assets in the game are free (see credits), most of them are from itch.io.
